America's Crime Epidemic
                   Editorial by Jeff Goolsby, Editor

According to a news report in the New York Times, June 3, 2002, building new prisons in America is not preventing repeat crimes.  Obviously, building new prisons is not the answer to our ever increasing crime problem, it only increases our tax burden and perpetuates our crime problem.
Even though our terrorist problem is extremely important, our crime problem is more devastating in terms of deaths, physical damage to victims ,and financial damage to victims.
Clearly, we must exert every possible effort toward preventing more attacks by terrorist.  However, most likely most Democrats (and many Republicans) strongly suspect that Illegal President Thief Bush may have known and condoned the imminent 911 terrorist attack for the purpose of becoming a Wartime President Hero to boost his poor popularity.  This suspicion is because he was briefed about the terrorist activities in August, 2001, he was in Florida when the attack occurred, and Flight 93 was apparently aiming for the White House.  Furthermore, it is very clear and obvious that the FBI and CIA are vigorously shifting blame to themselves and away from Bush.
According to research by the Libertarian Party, "America has more prisoners in one state (California) than do the nations of France, Great Britain, Japan, Germany, Holland, and Singapore combined.   30% of all African-American males will be sent to prison at some time during their lives.  74% of the people in prison for drug crimes are black.  In 1998, for example, more people were arrested nationwide for marijuana charges (682,885) than were arrested for murder, rape, robbery, and aggravated assault combined (676,020), according to the FBI Uniform Crime Report.  In 1970 fewer than 200,000 Americans were behind bars.  By contrast in the 1990's alone 840,000 Americans were sent to prison. – recently locked the 2 millionth American behind Bars.  Violent crime has dropped by 21% since 1993 (through 1999) – but the number of incarcerated Americans has grown by 5% to 6% each year since then."
According to other news reports, approximately 75% of our prison inmates are incarcerated for drug related crimes and other victimless crimes.
Clearly, our religious fanatic victimless crime laws and judicial defects along with judicial corruption are creating crime instead of preventing it, despite their good intentions.  The Republican religious alcohol prohibition law, started in 1921 and was repealed by Democrats in 1933, created an explosion of criminal activity while that law was in effect.  Our laws prohibiting the use of drugs, gambling, and prostitution are the main creators of most criminal activity we have today in exactly the same way as the alcohol prohibition law.  These are laws attempting to force religious beliefs upon the public in violation of our separation of state law and U.S. Constitution.
The alcohol prohibition law could not and did not prevent the use of alcohol.  Our laws today prohibiting drugs, gambling and prostitution can not and will not prevent their use by Americans.  They have only created a crime explosion and will always cause considerable crime that would not occur if these laws were repealed along with sensible controls and tax laws replacing them.
As an example, FDA controlled drugs would be much safer and cause less deaths and birth defects than are caused by illegal drugs.  If prostitution were controlled, as in Nevada, especially frequent health examination, there would be considerably less venereal diseases, including AIDS, less birth defects, and less deaths.  Prostitution has been around since the beginning of humans and will continue as long as humans exist, despite any religious effort to stop it.  Gambling has probably been around most of the life of humans and also will continue whether legal or not.  If these activities are legalized, or at least de-criminalized, they can be controlled to the betterment of humanity and taxed.
If all of these aforesaid "illegal" activities were producing tax revenue instead of costing huge sums of taxpayer dollars, we would eliminate a huge amount of crime and have a legitimate reason to reduce taxes.  Ironically and hypocritically many state governments have gotten into gambling with lotteries.
Another problem is with our sentencing laws.  Most people convicted of violent crimes, even including murder, spend less time in prison than people who have not actually physically harmed anyone.  As an example, the Catholics who have recently claimed that they were molested many years ago, many of them may be as phony as the epidemic of child molesting trials a few years ago that turned out to be mostly phony.  When I was a child, I was approached three different times by pedophiles.  I refused to participate, they left me alone, and no harm was done.
I have to believe that any person claiming to have been molested as a child was agreeable to the act and knew exactly what they were doing.  Furthermore, most likely the child would have done, and probably did, the same "Experiment" with another child because children have tremendous curiosity and most likely no actual harm was done.  However, the men or priest involved obviously need psychological help with their mental problem but not serve more time in prison than violent criminals.  We don't send people to prison who are born mentally retarded or develop other mental problems.
It is a sad state of affairs that our victimless crime laws create crime instead of preventing crime plus our judicial defects and judicial corruption frequently convicting innocent people while keeping many of the real criminals free plus ripping-off millions of people in civil court.  Guaranteed solutions to these problems can be found in How To Eliminate JUDICIAL CORRPUTION & Defects In Our Judicial System at www.rojego.com.  If you would like to correct these extremely critical problems, learn these proposed solutions and request that your lawmaker make an effort to make these urgently needed corrections.
Our criminal problems are getting worse not better.  The aforesaid countries do not have the death penalty, which does not deter murders, have less crime problems, and less people in prison.  Our Democrats and unions taught them how to create middle class wage earners and better living conditions, now perhaps they can teach us how to have less crime.  That has to tell us that we are doing something drastically wrong regarding crime.  Our laws and judicial defects are in urgent need of correction.  Clearly, we have too many of the wrong people in our lawmaking positions.
