Why We have Memorial Day
From D-EAT
People who did not exist when we fought wars for freedom, liberty, and justice for every American citizen must have a reminder that their forefathers and some brothers, sisters, fathers, uncles, aunts, some of which are dead and some still alive who fought and died for this great country. The United States of America is the greatest and most prosperous country in the world because we fought the great fights.
I served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was involved in numerous extremely dangerous situations including missed being killed by a Japanese Kamikaze plane by about one and one half seconds. Most people do not appear to understand or appreciate what so many have given so that they can enjoy the benefits of this great country.
All of us need to continue the fight for the rights we enjoy or think we enjoy. As an example our economy was not terribly different from the economy in Mexico and many other countries that are less prosperous than the United States until the Hoover Depression caused the election of Franklin D. Roosevelt as president and a majority of Democrats in both houses of congress. Republicans had a stranglehold on Washington from the beginning of this country until the Hoover Depression. The Democrats and the unions created the middle class income citizenship in the United States, Canada, Japan, and Europe following the Hoover Depression and World War II. Until that time we had the Super Rich, Super Poor, and Farmer income class. Most people who worked doing industrial production, etc., worked 70 hours per week, lived in rented shacks owned by their employer, bought groceries and clothing from stores owned by their employer. Their income was not adequate for them to enjoy any luxuries and barely provided bare necessities.
Democratic Governor Ellis Arnold (1943-1948) caused the repeal of the Republican Federal law that required double freight rates for anything manufactured in the South and shipped to the North. This was the real reason the Freight Rate War, a/k/a Civil War, was fought. Republican Abraham Lincoln added "Free the Slaves" to develop an emotional issue to muster and keep an army to force the South to continue with the double Freight Rate disparity instead of forming their own separate country caused by the double freight rates.
Even though we currently have the greatest country in the world, we still have many disparities that urgently need correcting. Republicans are still Republicans and their goals are still basically the same as they were when Democrats took over in 1932, Republicans want to switch us back to a super rich and super poor society. Bush is obsessed with power and trickery, and is raising huge sums of money to try to gain a huge majority in Congress so he can further devastate Social Security, and resume exploding the Federal debt and inflation/dollar devaluation that occurred during the 24 years from 1968 through 1992.
We do not have justice for all as the judicial farce was exposed by DNA testing.. We need to fix our judicial defects or remove the word "justice" from our pledge of allegiance. Today, our Social Security retirement taxes provides 1/10 the retirement income it could and should provide for a person paying the maximum Social Security Taxes, this is Federal theft and a disgrace. This should and can be easily corrected with your help. See the information at www.rojego.com then request these corrections from your Congressional and Senator candidates.
We can be beaten from within and we need to spend a great deal of time and money defending against Bush's super rich/super poor efforts and possibly much more. See yesterday's editorial, Bush Terroristgate, in www.democraticexcellence.com. We must make sure that we restore Democratic control in both houses in Congress. We must elect Democrats at the local and state level.
Please click "Forward" and send this Memorial Day message to all of your friends and acquaintances, even Republicans.
