Bush Jr. Hidden Agenda:
Inflation-Dollar Devaluation-Depressions
Editorial by Jeff Goolsby, Editor
President Bush has adamantly refused to curb electric and gas producers' price gouging in California and is endorsing the same gouging abusing citizens tactics nationwide against the American public at large. Did Bush, Jr. forget to tell the public who he has "Compassion" for?
President Bush is attempting to re-invigorate the inflation/dollar devaluation/depression spree which was the main hidden agenda of the Nixon - Ford - Reagan - Bush Sr. Administrations. By refusing to curb the price gouging explosion, in California and elsewhere, currently in progress by the utilities producers who are obsessed with extreme greed, Bush is resuming the same economic fiasco that devalued our dollar approximately 90% from the day Nixon was elected until Bill Clinton was elected, through runaway inflation, depressions and Federal debt explosions.
This Republican Hidden Agenda is the reason why many items that cost $10 today only cost $1 the day Richard Nixon was elected president.
Deregulation of utilities or any necessary basic product or service in which the suppliers have a monopolistic control is a part of the Republican Hidden Inflation Agenda and is a national tragedy. This simply opens the gate for monopolistic producers obsessed with extreme greed to gouge the public nationwide with unnecessarily high gouging profits.
This is a tool in the Republican Hidden Agenda to re-implement the runaway inflation/dollar devaluation/depression era which President Clinton curtailed during his terms in office.
The utilities deregulation in California was a tragic mistake and should be reversed immediately. It is apparent that the price gougers have artificially created a shortage of electricity and gas as an excuse to raise prices to gain unearned rip-off profits.
Energy producers earned excellent profits and growth during the time that prices were regulated by government agencies. Apparently, the only time that energy producers got in a bind was when the managers of the energy companies were sleeping at the switch and did not adequately plan additional capacity as economic signals and growth became apparent.
A price gouging tax should be enacted by Congress on basic non-discretionary monopolistic products and services to require price gougers to pay their price gouging profits as income tax which would eliminate the desire to gouge the public at large with excessive rip-off profits. This suggested price gouging tax should be retroactive to January 1, 2001.
Congress should also enact a law requiring price caps based on percentage profit margins that were being used by the same energy producers prior to the current price gouging spree.
Congress should examine the energy producers' records to make sure that the percentages are exactly as in the past instead of some phony percentages that they might submit to Congress for the price cap guide to avoid the embarrassment and legality of being caught price gouging.
These suggested laws should be enacted immediately. If Bush, Jr. refuses to sign them and if enough votes in Congress are not available for an over-ride vote margin, Congressional Leaders should go to the public with press releases and an advertising campaign and get public pressure exerted on the members who voted in favor of continuing the price gouging.
If this inflation and price gouging initiative is allowed to continue, it will spread throughout the United States. It will crank up another obviously intended Nixon/Ford/Reagan/Bush, Sr. inflation/dollar devaluation/depression era. This Republican Hidden Agenda is already underway and must be stopped Immediately to avoid a continuation of the economic fiasco we recently experienced which was curtailed by President Clinton.
Part of the method used by Clinton was keeping interest rates low and maintaining a full employment policy. Plus, for the purpose of paying down the Reagan/Bush debt including its extra interest cost, increasing taxes on the rich who reaped the most rewards by maintaining full employment and a prosperous economy.
